Australia Fires Kill Half a Billion Animals as Crisis Mounts!

It has already been a devastating new year for animals. Fires have been raging all across Australia. So far the fires have killed HALF A BILLION animals. That number is hard for us to fathom. This number has included birds, mammals, and reptiles. According to ecologists the number is actually a lot higher than that and will probably keep rising.

“Many of the affected animals are likely to have been killed directly by the fires, with others succumbing later due to the depletion of food and shelter resources and predation from introduced feral cats and red foxes,” the University of Sydney ecologists said in a statement on Friday.

Australia’s koala population has already been declining but they have estimated that approximately 8,000 more have been killed in these fires. Many animal rescues and Australia Zoo are trying to help as many of these animals as humanely possible but it is tough. If you are looking to donate and find out more please click here.
